Description: James is, by almost every girl’s standard, a good looking boy. His hair that can’t seem to stay down is seen as endearing and his condescending, ever-present smirk is seen as charming. He has nice eyes, long eyelashes and a habit of making girls swoon. At his young age, he’s rather tall though he hasn’t quite filled out yet, leaving him a bit of a beanpole. Though he may not have the striking good looks of his best mate, Sirius Black, he certainly has his own charm. His face is long and handsome: his manner playful and teasing. Some people have their personalities sketched across their faces: and from James’ smile to his twinkling eyes, everyone can tell that he is brimming with self-confidence and teenage rebellion. He dresses well enough, though mostly sticks to the school uniform (seeing as not wearing it is a stupid way to end up in detention). Altogether, James is a handsome young man.

Overall Personality: In 1976, James Alexander Potter smoked too much, he had had too many detentions, and he’d had too many girlfriends. Ever since he’d been a little boy, James had been a bit of trouble. Though he was an overall likable kid, he liked a good practical joke, even if the recipient didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as he did. He was loud and boisterous, often causing the more subdued to try and avoid him.
Hogwarts probably did Prongs more bad than it did him good, seeing as in his first year he met Sirius Black, a rebel much like himself. When the pair was together they brought out in each other what the teachers wish would have stayed kept away. Together, they found a love for pulling pranks and breaking rules. It is certain that James Potter and Sirius Black must hold records for most detentions. James’ care-free and footloose nature allow him to do things like snog whomever he pleases, set fireworks off in the hallways, and smoke as many cigarettes as he likes (not in the school though. He’s pretty sure they have some kind of policy in the halls).
The sixth year is of the opinion that he is universally well liked. Throughout the years, the infamy of the marauders spread and often younger students (particularly girls) are a little awestruck with him. Of course, like any teenager, the popularity went to his head and made him more than a little cocky. James Potter is of the opinion that he is irresistible. Mind you, Lily Evans is making this harder than it should be. All he wanted was to be a sought after bloke, when he decided that hey, maybe he actually had feelings for a girl and she shot him down he just wasn’t really sure how to deal with it. Though he doesn’t particularly like the term, he’s a bit of a player. James knows that the number of girls he gets with means that Lily is probably too good for him. Merlin, he knows it and he hates it. Lily Evans is the girl who is too good for James Potter. Of course, that doesn’t mean he can’t continue to pine after her…
Contrary to popular belief though, James is more than just a crazy teenager. This is a boy who is loyal to the end and true to his friends beyond reason. He’s madly in love and hates it a considerable amount. He gives good advice though he seldom follows it himself. He’s clever but doesn’t apply himself. And he doesn’t get on very well with his dad. Over the past year, his row with his father has caused him some drama (which he absolutely hates). All his life, Alexander Potter had been his idol and now things were falling apart and James wasn’t sure whom it was safe to trust anymore. He believes in his friends and though he has no trouble making acquaintances, he has very few real friends outside his group of marauders. All in all, James Potter has a lot more to him than meets the eye.

Overall History: Alexander William Potter and Grace Susan Mulligan were both nice people from nice, magical, pureblood homes. Not that blood purity mattered that much to them, but when they got married it was customary for blood not to mingle too much. Their marriage resulted in a fair amount of old money being passed forward to the young couple. They hadn’t a care in the world. Alexander’s job as an auror brought in more than enough on top of what money they’d inherited. Living comfortably as they were, they didn’t have to worry about funds to feed another hungry mouth. Before long, the wealthy twosome became three when on March 27th 1960, they were blessed with their first and only child James.
James was a mischievous child, often getting himself into trouble. When he was only able to crawl he was much like other curious toddlers and would pull pots, pans and anything else low enough for him to reach down from the shelves. As he got older, he found that he liked causing a commotion in the house and he often went out of his way to cause trouble. Once he put a pinecone on his mother’s chair (much to her surprise when she sat down), another time he moved all of his father’s files from his office into the bathroom. If this tells us anything it’s what kind of a young adult he grew into.
His childhood was pretty uneventful, like most purebloods, he didn’t attend any sort of muggle school, simply spending his first eleven years at home learning how to read, write, do basic arithmetic and play Quidditch with the help of his parents. Pureblood parents are expected to teach their children the essentials. Around the age of seven he started showing signs of real magical ability. Sometimes he would make things appear in his room, other times he would break things or make things disappear with no real explanation. It made sense to everyone when he got his Hogwarts letter at age eleven.
On September first 1971, he and all of the other young witches and wizards in his year boarded the Hogwarts express for the first time. This was also when he first met his future best friends: Remus Lupin, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew. Sirius and James were headstrong, stupid and outgoing; therefore easily they became the leaders of their group. The boys, who were sorted in Gryffindor, found a passion of mischief and teasing (usually at the expense of Snape, but sometimes the girls who had cooties got teased too). The boys spent almost the first two and a half years of their schooling alienating girls (because girls are gross) and being the little preteen boys they were at the time.
Unfortunately, at about the age of thirteen, hormones kicked in and suddenly girls weren’t so gross. James and Sirius (who had both grown into their looks better than Peter) were suddenly and object of romantic interest for girls and for the first time they were actually interested. Halfway through his third year at Hogwarts James had his first girlfriend: Shelly or Sheila or Sharon… something like that. She hardly counted as a girlfriend seeing as they only ever held hands and kissed on the cheek. As years wore on, however, the two ringleaders of the “marauders” (a name McGonagall had accidentally given the group) became quite popular with the ladies and although they never managed to keep a steady girlfriend, they had more than one “mistress”. Despite his nonchalance about girls, he found himself in the unfortunate predicament where he was actually genuinely interested in someone: Lily Evans. Just his luck that she also happened to be best friends with the boy he often teased and that she had no interest at all in dating him… Oh Merlin.

[“Mornings are always such a pain.” James Potter thought to himself as he brushed his teeth, looking at his disheveled appearance in the mirror. He’d had another late night trying to finish a last minute essay. Divination was such a load of rubbish anyway; he simply thought that it was a waste of time to be losing precious minutes on writing and interpreting that nonsense. The Divination professor was insane and from experience, he had learned that if you wrote enough death predictions she would give you a good grade. That whole class had started off as a joke: an easy class he, Remus, Sirius and Peter could all take. Now he was certain that if anyone ever forced him to read tealeaves again he would throw himself off the astronomy tower. Shockingly, divination had given him a class he wanted to do work for even less than potions. However, looking back on it, he figured he might have started working on it a few hours earlier because now he certainly regretted it.
Trying his best to muster the will power to keep his eyes open, he examined his face in the mirror. His hazel eyes weren’t sparkling like the normally did and he had heavy dark circles under his eyes from the nearly sleepless night. Where a normally clean-shaven face would stare back at him was a man with slight stubble growing along his jawline. Normally, he was conscious enough of his appearance to never neglect shaving. With OWLs coming up and the homework piled on by professors, he’d hardly had time to eat, much less shave. James frowned at his unruly reflection. His hair, though usually uncooperative, had taken tousled to a whole new level. The mop atop his head looked as though it had been through a wicked windstorm and back. There had been no windstorm, but James was sure that the number of times he’d ruffled his hair trying to concentrate hadn’t helped smooth it.
Though he didn’t look quite his best, his stomach was growling, as that was cue enough to forget his appearance and head to the Great Hall. Breakfast at Hogwarts was truly a work of art, and after a long night of homework he was more than thrilled to be able to enjoy the delicacies created in the kitchen by the friendly house elves who were employed at the school. His mouth watered just thinking of the greasy strips of bacon, golden toast and assortment of jams that awaited him only a few floors down. Perhaps there would even be scrambled eggs: he loved scrambled eggs. The pancakes that were sometimes served for this wonderful first meal of the day were absolutely sublime and he would have no qualms if that were on today’s menu. His stomach growled in anticipation.
Trotting down the hallways, he saw a few other students in their school robes either heading down to breakfast or leaving the Great Hall in the hopes that they might be able to get some early morning studying in before the start of their first class. James shrugged; he’d never really been one for keeners. If he were up early enough to enjoy an hour and a half of breakfast, he would take advantage of it. He most certainly wouldn’t use it to advance his academic prowess. The drowsy whispers of teenagers at seven thirty in the morning echoed around the corridors. It was funny to see how some students were so ready to go and begin their day; while others, himself included among that number, were barely awake and looked as though they could probably use another two or three hours of rest.
Entering the Great Hall, he did a quick visual search for his three best mates, none of whom seemed to be present. Wormtail was probably off with that girl he fancied, Moony was off studying for their potions quiz, but Padfoot… ”I wonder where Sirius has gotten to?” James wondered as he took a seat by himself at Gryffindor table. A couple of fourth year girls just a little ways down from him swooned a little bit and he sent an encouraging wink their way. Flirting came naturally. He really couldn’t care less about those girls, but he needed something to cheer up his morning seeing as he was not only tired and friendless at the table, but for breakfast they were serving porridge.]
